EXCLUSIVE ‘A lot of people could be intimidated by Love Island’: Samira Mighty admits appearing on the show has had an impact on her dating life

She shot to fame on the 2018 series of Love Island as the unlucky-in-love contestant who ended up quitting the show after her boyfriend was evicted.

And Samira Mightly has admitted her involvement in the series can prove ‘intimidating’ for potential suitors, as she explained her decision to keep future relationships private, and told why she no longer speaks to ex Frankie Foster.

The Love Island star, 23, told MailOnline: ‘I think a lot of people could be intimidated by the whole Love Island title.’

Instead of feeling disconcerted by her single status, Samira feels empowered, as she focuses her attention on her singing career and hopes to release new music next year.

During an interview to discuss her Virgin Media campaign, The Look of Love, she said: ‘To be honest I haven’t really thought about [dating] that much as there’s a lot going on at the minute.

‘I’m just trying to focus on my job and what I want to do in the future.

‘If anything happens in my love life now, I think it’s going to be extremely private. I don’t want to air everything anymore because if something goes wrong, then everyone will know about it.’

For the brunette bombshell, being thrust into the limelight hasn’t impacted her love life, however, she admitted that the Love Island brand can be intimidating for others.

She said: ‘I think a lot of people could be intimidated by the whole Love Island title, but I don’t think it’s done anything to my love life, it’s not changed a lot to be honest.

‘I’m not really a “dater” anyway, I don’t really go out and meet lots of guys.

‘Before Love Island I was working constantly in the West End so I didn’t really have time, and if I did have a boyfriend, it was for a really long time because my job didn’t enable me to go out and meet lots of people.

‘And especially this year with the pandemic, I’ve not met a lot of people!’

Samira hit headlines following her romance with Frankie Foster, who she met on Love Island, quitting the show for him when he was eliminated from the series.

The couple decided to go their separate ways in August 2018 after her beau was caught cheating.

She confirmed that she no longer speaks to Frankie, saying: ‘No I don’t talk to him, it’s been a long time since I spoke to Frankie, it’s almost three years since the show. He was part of my Love Island experience but that’s it.’

Samira then dated Ibiza Weekender personality Alex Dean, but the couple split before the start of lockdown in March, after spending 14 months together.

The reality TV bombshell revealed what she now looks for in a partner: ‘When I am dating, I think for me the most important thing is definitely the eyes. It’s important to see people’s emotions.

‘I also usually look for body language, because if somebody’s body language is off, then you definitely know it’s not right.’

Samira has teamed up with Virgin Media to discuss the importance of eye contact in a bid to help singles improve their online dating game through their smouldering gaze and speedy internet connection.

More than four in 10 singles admit that the eyes are the most important tool in online dating, and Samira believes that meeting someone via video connection first can help people avoid the pitfalls of modern dating.

She added: ‘I think it’s difficult with social media, you can basically create a whole character if you want to, as there is a lot of editing that goes on.

‘But I think that’s why video chat is important, because you can see the person for who they really are, that’s unless you’ve get mad video editing skills!

‘You don’t want to talk to someone online and then go and meet them and find out they’re actually a catfish and then you can’t run away.

‘But over video call you can see someone’s emotions, see if you like them and close the laptop lid and walk away if you don’t!’

Aside from discussing the trials and tribulations of dating, Samira has been getting her creative juices flowing and hopes to release her own music next year.

She told MailOnline: ‘I look up to Dua Lipa’s music style and her fashion as well. In a similar way, I would like to incorporate my dancing and fashion into my singing to make it a whole creative experience.

Samira performed as part of the X Factor celebrity pop group, No Love Lost, in 2019, alongside Love Islander’s Wes Nelson, 22, Eyal Booker, 25, and Zara McDermott, 24.

She shunned the possibility of an X Factor reunion as she plans on building her solo career first.

Samira laughed: ‘I’m not too sure about that [reunion]. I think I need to be my own artist before asking people to come on my tracks.’
